ACTION ALERT!!!

Dear Streetcar Supporter (PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHERS TOO!),

They're at it again. The Cincinnati Streetcar project has been recommended to receive two State of Ohio grants in the total amount of $36.8 million to build the line from the riverfront to the University of Cincinnati and to plan the build-out of the system throughout Uptown. Opponents are waging an intense email campaign to revoke these recommendations.

These two grants will create new jobs and economic development in the City of Cincinnati. The first phase of the Streetcar will create 1,800 new construction jobs and 9,000 permanent jobs—growing our city's tax base and increasing the resources available for all 52 neighborhoods. It's the last piece of financing we need.

The Cincinnati Streetcar is Ohio's highest-scoring transportation project on its Major New Program List, which can be found online at:

http://www.dot.state.oh.us/trac/Documents/2011%20Draft%20TRAC%20List%20(December%209,%202010).pdf

Residents and visitors are urged to please write a letter or email on behalf of the Cincinnati Streetcar project to the state's Transportation Review Advisory Council during the Public Comment period which ends February 11. It's important that your "Dear TRAC" comments are positive and stress the need to fund the two separate streetcar allocations included in the draft-list. They are:
  • $35 million in Construction Funding for "Cincinnati Streetcar Phase 1" -- middle of Page 1
  • $1.8 million in Preliminary Engineering funding for the "Cincinnati Uptown Streetcar" -- top of Page 4
Comments can be submitted until February 11 in two ways:

By regular mail to:
Ohio Department of Transportation
attn: Ed Kagel, TRAC Coordinator
1980 W. Broad Street
Columbus, OH 43223

By email to:

TRAC@dot.state.oh.us

Please do this right away. A letter is better than an email.

Be as original as you can be. Let them know how the streetcar will improve lives, businesses, and our city in general. Make it personal. But don't try to write the perfect letter! Better to write an imperfect letter than none at all. Get it done and send it!

Thanks for supporting the Cincinnati Streetcar. Your letter or email needs to be sent no later than Tuesday.
