Sauna Maintenance Update
The north and south saunas are currently open; however, we are aware that the north sauna is not reaching its full temperature, and the south sauna has been shutting off.  New heaters are on order and will be replaced in mid-December. Thank you for your understanding!

 

Join Rec Sports for a Fun Thanksgiving Activity
With Thanksgiving around the corner, celebrate and share the fun and lasting traditions with your families at Rec Sports! Join us on Sunday, November 21, from 1-3:30 p.m. in RPAC Meeting Room 1 for caramel apple making, tradition sharing, and family-focused crafts. Road Construction Information
The John Herrick Road extension to Neil Avenue is expected to open on November 28, while 12th Avenue will be shut down for two years beginning December 7. 

 

“Thanks for Giving:” Donate Items to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank
The Ohio State Swim Club is hosting the “Thanks for Giving” Classic Swim Meet and Food Drive on Friday and Saturday, November 20-21, 2010, at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.  Admission is $3, but if you bring a can of food to donate to the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, your admission is FREE!  Can’t make it to the event? Donation boxes will be available starting Monday, November 15, at the RPAC Welcome Center and McCorkle. Visit http://www.recsports.osu.edu for more information on this event.

 

School’s Out—But Camp Now & Then Is In!
Registration is open for parents interested in enrolling their children in our winter break camps, taking place December 20-22 and 27-30. Member fees are $31 per child per day. Activities vary daily, but may include swimming, rock climbing, sports and games, and arts and crafts. Spots fill up quickly, so register today! Go to the Best Bouldering Destination in the World with the Outdoor Adventure Center

The Outdoor Adventure Center is heading to Hueco Tanks, Texas, dubbed the best bouldering in the world, December 10 - 18. The qualities that give this place such a lofty title are the high concentration, unique features, and quality of the routes. The cost of $350 includes transportation, equipment, food, lodging, and instruction. Sign up by November 22 at the OAC or by calling (614) 247-8680!

Registration Deadline Approaching for Winter Programs
Member registration begins Monday, November 22, for all Learn-to-Swim, youth, student, and adult instructional programs, as well as Adapted Recreational programs. Winter session begins January 23, 2011.

Want to Become a Personal Trainer?

Want to become a personal trainer? You can by spring 2011 if you register for the World Instructor Training Schools (WITS) Personal Training Certification Course, taking place in winter 2011.

This nationally accredited certification course will be held each Saturday from January 8 until February 12 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the RPAC. It includes 30 hours of hands-on learning and lecture. Registration begins November 1, 2010. The cost is $489 for all Recreational Sports members, and $539 for non-members.

Learn Essential Outdoor Emergency Skills with the Wilderness First Responder Course

How do you deal with a medical emergency when you are miles from help and dialing 9-1-1 is not an option?

Learn essential skills through the Outdoor Adventure Center’s Wilderness First Responder course at Ohio State, December 13-19, 2010.

Classes, led by professional instructors from Wilderness Medical Associates®, are fast-paced with an emphasis on practical skills. Mornings are devoted to lectures, while afternoons and evenings are spent working on tasks from stretcher construction to full-scale simulations.

Everyone who completes the course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates® Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certification, all valid for three years.


Cost for the course is $675, which includes the textbook, case studies workbook, field guide, lecture notes, and handouts. This course is recommended for all outdoor professionals and enthusiasts who spend time in remote areas.
