Welcome to our New Director, Dr. Don Stenta

The Office of Student Life and the Department of Recreational Sports are pleased to announce that Dr. Donald Stenta has been named director of Recreational Sports effective April 1. Dr. Stenta joins the department after 18 years at the university, most recently holding a joint visiting assistant professor appointment with the John Glenn School of Public Affairs and the School of Educational Policy and Leadership in the College of Education and Human Ecology.

 

Dr. Stenta holds a BA in psychology from Binghamton University, a master of education from the University of Vermont, and a PhD in higher education and student affairs from The Ohio State University.  He is active in the American College Personnel Association and serves as adviser to three student organizations: Democracy Matters, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and Ultimate Club.  He has been honored for his service by several Ohio State organizations and received the university’s Distinguished Staff Award in 2005.

 

An active member of Recreational Sports facilities since the opening of the RPAC in 2005, Dr. Stenta looks forward to working with the Rec Sports staff to provide the finest facilities, programs and services to our members.

2011 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships at McCorkle
The 2011 U.S. Synchronized Swimming National Championships will swim into action on Thursday, April 14. The event, which runs through Saturday, April 16, will feature more than 100 elite athletes competing for national titles in solo, duet, team, and combination events in the nation’s most prestigious competition. 


An Olympic preview will be held on Saturday, April 16. The U.S. National Team will perform two exhibition routines to show its preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.


The Ohio State Buckeyes will compete in this event after claiming their 27th Collegiate Championship Overall High Point Title at Canisius College on March 19, 2011.  Read more about this event at

Skyhawk’s Spring Break Camp Changed
The Skyhawk's Spring Break Camp originally scheduled April 18 - 22 will not be available this spring. Camp Now and Then will be offered as an alternative April 18-22 from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Register your child for individual days, or the whole week.

This quarter’s Group Fitness schedule features something for everyone, from cycling to Pilates, dancing, boot camp, and more! Group Fitness passes are on sale at the RPAC Welcome Center. A single class pass is $5, a half-quarter pass runs $25, and a full-quarter pass costs $50. Banff Mountain Film Festival at the Wexner Center
Each year, the Banff Mountain Film Festival presents the most creative and inspiring examples of outdoor adventure filmmaking from around the world. This year, the festival, co-sponsored by the Department of Recreational Sports Outdoor Adventure Center, will be no different! Make sure to visit the festival on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the Wexner Center for the Arts. Rare Films from the Baseball Hall of Fame at the Wexner Center April 8-9

Celebrate the opening of a new baseball season with cinematic treasures from the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This year’s program will entertain baseball fans and cinephiles alike. Featured clips include a 1959 visit to the Baseball Hall of Fame, highlights of the 1954 World Series between Cleveland and New York, footage of Roy Campanella, Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, Babe Ruth, and much more! Blaze the Trail 5K and Family Fun Run 2K—Early Bird Rates End April 3!
Blaze the Trail on Sunday, April 10, and support The Ohio State University’s Burn Center, which provides education about fire safety, prevention, and arson awareness on campus and assists with care and recovery for victims of fire. This 5K race and Family Fun Run 2K starts at The Ohio State University’s Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) at 9 a.m. Registration fees are: $10 for Ohio State students; $20 for adults; $5 for children until April 3; rates increase after this date.  Registration includes a T-shirt and post race refreshments.
