If your child will be five years old by September 30, 2012, then you can enroll them in Kindergarten today. We offer full-day Kindergarten in all our elementary schools. Parents can sign up through the end of the school year at their child's assigned school. Check out the Kindergarten page on the CCS Website for more details about the program and registration.
Superintendent's Honors and Recognition Ceremony - May 8 More than 220 students, staff and members of the community will be recognized for their hard work and support of the Columbus City Schools at the Superintendent's Honors and Recognition Ceremony at Huy Elementary School and the A.G. Bell Program, 1545 Huy Rd., at 5:30 p.m. Among those being recognized are 75 of the district's brightest students who have a 4.0 or higher grade point average or have been named Validictorian by their school. ![]() The Gates Millennium Scholarship (GMS) is awarded annually to just 1,000 students across the country. In Ohio, only 15 students earned this prestigious award, and eight of the scholars in Ohio attend Columbus City Schools. This scholarship is good-through-graduation and can be used at any college or university the student chooses. In addition to financial support, Gates Millennium Scholars also get personal and professional development through GMS leadership programs and academic support throughout their college career. National Teacher Day and National School Nurse Day this Week May is a time to honor and celebrate those who people who made an impact in your life and are making an impact in the lives of our youth. National Teacher Day is May 8, and National School Nurse Day is May 9. Why not take this time to send your favorite teacher or school nurse a note of thanks for what they've done for you or your children. Student Photographs on Display at Columbus Museum of Art ![]() CAHS Wins 4th Annual CCS Poetry Slam Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS) took home their first team title in the fourth annual Columbus City Schools Poetry Slam. Held April 28 at East High, thirty-two poets from eight different CCS schools performed their original poetry in front of a panel of judges. CAHS, coached by Sidney Jones, Jr., won the team competition. Centennial High School, coached by Lynn Taylor and Sarah Barry, were runner-ups and Eastmoor Academy High School, coached by Wyk McGowan, came in third. The individual winners were: 1st—Yusuph Mkangara (CAHS); 2nd—Shenise Brown (Eastmoor Academy ); 3rd—Zachary Bailey (Centennial). Micah Naguit from CAHS was the Spirit of the Slam award winner for the best poem of the night for a poet that wasn't in individual finals.
