City Councilmember Hearcel F. Craig participates in the “Ties that Bind” Ceremony at Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys

Columbus City Councilmember Hearcel F. Craig joined Columbus City Schools Superintendent/CEO, Gene T. Harris, Ph.D., city officials and area community leaders in welcoming the inaugural class of the Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys during the “Ties that Bind” tie-tying ceremony this morning.

The expectation of “Excellence” at Columbus City Preparatory School for Boys begins with building a sense of community. The “Ties that Bind” tie-tying ceremony is a symbolic induction for scholars into the school community. The wearing of a City Prep for Boys tie connects the scholars to the ideas of unity, brotherhood and school pride.

Community leaders taking part in assisting this inaugural class in tying their uniform ties include The Ohio State University’s Athletic Director Gene Smith, President of 100 Black Men of Columbus, John M. Jackson, and Senior Vice President and Assistant Publisher for the Columbus Post, Darryl Lee.

Each year young scholars will begin their journey with this important ceremony. This year’s inaugural class will have the responsibility of assisting the class of 2011-2012 scholars in tying their ties.
