Volunteers Needed for The Polar ExpressChildren's Holiday Train Excursion
Brecksville, Ohio - The National Park Service at Cuyahoga Valley National
Park (CVNP) and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad (CVSR) are seeking
volunteers to spread holiday cheer aboard The Polar Express. This holiday
program is based on Chris Van Allsburg's enchanting book The Polar Express
, a young boy's trip to the North Pole.
Children, clad in pajamas, board the train in Akron or Independence and
travel through Cuyahoga Valley National Park to hear the story of The Polar
Express, enjoy hot cocoa and cookies, and sing carols on their way to the
North Pole. Through the train's windows, children see holiday characters,
the silhouettes of elves hard at work, and Santa!
Volunteers are needed to BE Santa, read the story, assist in creating a
festive atmosphere in the car, serve cookies and hot cocoa, and more.
Training will be provided. Be a part of this holiday tradition that creates
lasting memories for children of northeast Ohio from November 17 through
December 19. For more information or to volunteer, contact Pamela Machuga
at (330) 657-1914 or pam_machuga@nps.gov.
CVNP encompasses 33,000 acres along the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland
and Akron. Managed by the National Park Service, CVNP combines cultural,
historical, recreational, and natural activities in one setting. For more
information about the park, visit www.nps.gov/cuva/ or
www.dayinthevalley.com/ or call (216) 524-1497 or (800) 445-9667.
CVSR, in partnership with Cuyahoga Valley National Park, is dedicated to
the preservation of historic passenger rail transportation in the Cuyahoga
Valley. For more information call (800) 468-4070 or visit www.cvsr.com.
