School Starts August 22, Registration is Underway
More than 50,000 students are expected to begin classes at 115 Columbus City Schools on Wednesday, August 22. Three district schools on the Year-Round calendar – Columbus Africentric, Woodcrest Elementary and Weinland Park Elementary – began school July 25. Students can enroll at their neighborhood schools beginning August 6. Click here for more details.


4 New/Renovated Schools Opening, 4 Schools Moving
When CCS students return to class on August 22, many will be returning to new or renovated buildings or new locations. Students at Georgian Heights Alternative, Liberty, and Olde Orchard Alternative Elementary Schools will be attending school in brand new buildings while students at Clinton Elementary will return to a totally renovated space. Students at the Columbus International High School and three other schools will also be attending school in new locations. Click here for all the details.


Million Father March Set for 1st Day of School
The Columbus Urban League is encouraging all fathers, and father-figures, to participate in the 2012 Million Father March on August 22. This annual event is designed to encourage males to take an active role in the education and lives of their children. For more information, and to register, call 372-2344!


Africentric Early College K – 12 Preparing for New Home
The Columbus Board of Education recently approved a land swap with the City of Columbus that will allow the Columbus Africentric Early College K – 12 program to move from its' current downtown four-acre location to a 52-acre site on James Road, just south of Fifth Avenue on the city's east side. In return for the property, the District gave the city the Reeb Elementary School property. The District will begin working with the Africentric family and the east side neighborhood to develop a site plan and school design.


Linden-McKinley Dedication Set for September 17
Mark your calendar for the rededication of Linden-McKinley STEM Academy on September 17, at 6:30 p.m. This event at the school, 1302 Duxberry Ave., invites parents, students, alumni and members of the community to tour the renovated building and meet with district and school building staff.  Originally opened in 1928 as Linden-McKinley High School, the updated facility includes new science labs, updated technology, a rooftop garden, and other amenities designed to meet the needs of today's students.
